| STEP 5. Staple or stake the centers of the rolls When applying 80" wide rolls, it may be necessary under extremely windy conditions to staple the center of the rolls every five to ten feet. STEP 6. Butt rolls side-by-side Butt side-by-side rolls so that the edges of the mat fit tightly. Repeat the same stapling frequency as the leading edge – one staple or stake per linear square – securely footing both rolls with a Common staple (see diagram). Seams may be overlapped, but this may make it difficult for vegetation to emerge. STEP 7. Overlap seams end-to-end When joining the start of a new roll with the finished end of another, overlap the rolls by two inches in a shingle style. The finished roll should overlap the new roll see diagram). This protects against seam failure due to excessive water flow. STEP 8. Staple or stake the bottom of each roll Secure the bottom of each roll with one Futerra staple or stake per linear foot. STEP 9. Rake loose soil over the top Rake a minimum of four inches of loose soil over the one-foot portion of the Futerra mat that extends beyond the crown of the slope (see diagram). This is done in place of trenching-in the mat, saving time and labor costs. (However, if trenching is desired or required due to project considerations, the trench should be six inches deep and wide. Secure the Futerra in the bottom of the trench, using one staple per linear foot. Backfill the trench and compact). STEP 10. Repositioning a roll of Futerra Should a roll be improper y positioned, we recommend that it be rerolled up the slope and reapplied, or that the installers lift the mat. Do not drag the mat. Because Futerra’s bonding action goes to work immediately after being unrolled, dragging an improperly positioned roll on the soil surface may damage the mat. NOTES: Minimize foot traffic on the mat During installation, extensive foot traffic on the mat may create small tears and holes. While this will not significantly affect performance, we recommend that foot traffic be kept to a minimum until the blanket becomes wet. Stapling and staking frequency & depth These recommended guidelines cover a wide range of project applications. However, site conditions will dictate staple or stake frequency and depth. |
